Community Impact

2023-2024 Category Criteria

Applicable to all categories:

Must be within the calendar year 2023
Must be within the 16-county Chicago metropolitan statistical area (MSA)
Must have prepared only one Executive Summary for each Nomination

Multi-year winners are subject to the ONE YEAR MORATORIUM RULE** as stated on the awards home page.

This category recognizes the project that has notable community and social impact, with particular emphasis on advancing issues of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Specifically:

A nominated project should focus on the components of the project that expressly address societal or community issues.
Projects should provide demonstrable positive impact in more than one way.
Actual ownership/development of the project by MBE/WBE investors.
Achieving hiring or job creation goals.
Achieving exceptional MBE/WBE contractor requirements.
Achieving exceptional diversity and inclusion in design, architectural, engineering, legal, financial, brokerage and other professional services.
Partnerships between community/corporate/investment groups for the purpose of enhancing the overall project impact.

DEI – Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Recognizing that one of the key objectives of the Greater Chicago Food Depository is to address the underlying causes of hunger in Cook County by promoting equity, the Steering Committee of the Chicago Commercial Real Estate Awards is committed to making measurable progress towards a world of diversity, equity, and inclusion that serves everyone within our own industry. This includes diversifying its membership and nominees as well as recognizing projects and professionals that create positive societal change.

As part of your submission, please include a brief description of your Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts and initiatives. And, if possible, please give specific examples of how you fulfilled client requests with supplier diversity initiatives.

Executive Summary: Please summarize your submission in 500 words or less for a project completed in 2023. In the event the nominee becomes a Finalist, the Executive Summary will be the only document distributed to the Executive Committee, i.e. the voters.

Your summary must include the following items:

Project(s) Description: Please summarize why this Project should be nominated. Include the project description and scope of work, project type, size, location/address, owner/s, architect, contractors, partners, and any key consultants.
Social Impact: Please describe with specificity the positive impact the nominee has on societal or community issues (at a local, state or national level). Include the anticipated goals of the project and describe the services/community benefits provided and the people/organizations served.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: The nominee should detail specific diversity, equity and inclusion goals and how the project achieved participation. Include specific goals and actual achievement. Provide information related to any elements in the category description above.
Community Impact: Nominations for this category are made on behalf of individuals, companies or institutions that have demonstrated a positive impact on the community through a transaction, project or directive involving land, buildings, public area, diversity initiatives or other general uses within the real estate field. Community is defined as a neighborhood area, city or the region.
